History

The origins of Easter Monday celebrations in Poland date back to the Middle Ages. While initially connected to the Christian joy of the Resurrection, over time, it adopted folk customs linked to purification, fertility, and the arrival of spring.

Traditions

The most iconic tradition is pouring water on one another. It symbolized cleansing and blessing. Traditionally, boys would visit girls and sprinkle them with water while singing or offering wishes. Folk processions and playful pranks were also common.

Contemporary celebrations

Today, Wet Monday is a playful holiday, especially among children and teenagers. Local festivals, egg painting contests, and folk performances are held across the country. It is a public holiday in Poland.
